Happy eighth: celebrating marriage

My husband and I celebrated our eighth wedding anniversary the other day, 21 March 2011. Very early in the morning, before heading home from an overnight stay at my parents’ house, my daughters and I dropped by Red Ribbon to buy a cake. My eldest daughter even insisted that I had a message inscribed on it, and so I did. Written beautifully in white icing were the words “Happy 8th Anniversary.”

By seven in the evening, the girls and I could no longer contain our excitement. We were also already hungry and couldn’t wait anymore for my husband to get online at Skype. When he finally did, the girls started singing, “Happy eighth, eighth anniversary…” to the usual tune of “happy birthday.” They even danced and took pictures of their father and me as I held the cake for my husband to see through the laptop’s web cam. I also placed a delicate pink and white candle on top of the cake, which I had to light a couple of times as my daughters took turns blowing it. After which, we had carbonara–our family’s favorite–which I prepared for dinner, and started to ravage the dark chocolate moist cake. (Too bad my husband wasn’t home to take part in the meal!)

Our little celebration had been happy despite the physical distance between my husband and me. After two consecutive years of not celebrating our wedding anniversary happily together, this year’s celebration had been delightful and memorable, especially that the girls seemed old enough to appreciate the event that they actively participated in it for the first time. Moreover, I had felt that sparkle again between my husband and me as he greeted me “happy anniversary.”

  1. Dear Malot,
I know how busy those daughters can make you…I have three, but everyone is pretty grown up by now (24,21,19)
Thank you for your perseverance in writing your “how we met” story. I am looking forward to reading it.
    Have a nice weekend.

Wow, they are indeed all grown up, Susan! I sometimes wish my own children would grow up soon, but there would also be times when I wish I could keep them from growing 😉 I have finally finished the story. I’m sorry it took a while. I shall email you a copy of it, too.

      Hi, Susan,

Yes, I am still considering it. Thank you 🙂 I’m sorry I have not emailed you our story yet. I had been very busy the past week, accompanying my daughters to their dance lessons. I have actually started writing it, but I think I still need to edit and shorten it 😀 I will email it to you within the week. Have a great day! Take care, too.

Thank you, Susan. I’d be honored to share with you our story, although I never really thought of it as romantic or fanciful… I’ll get back to you on this. ^ ^
